Drone pupa is the trophosome of honey bee’s drone larvae during its metamorphosis period from sealed brood to eclosion. Normally, the drones appear during the breeding season of honey bees. As the queen bee is good at controlling its egg genders according to the size of honey comb, the beekeeper puts into the bee hives the manually made comb whose cell eyes are bigger than those of the worker cells, and the worker bees then build the comb into a drone comb full of drone cells. The queen bee lays onto the drone cells her unfertilized eggs, which will all grow to be drones afterwards, and the drone pupa can be collected at the 12 days. 

Pupa is a healthy food that contains high protein, low fat, various vitamin and trace element while the drone pupa contains more than 17 kinds of amino acids and vitamin, together with bio-activities such as hormones and enzyme. 

The drone pupa is mainly used in food industry at the present, and is considered as the most treasured food in the overseas market.
